There are many celebrities that use their fame and money to support worthy causes.  There are actors, sports figures, singers, and business tycoons that give their time and money to causes that they think are important.  Celebrity philanthropy raises a lot of money for worthy causes and organizations.

Some of the celebrities that give the most money are Tiger Woods, Barbara Streisand, Martha Stewart, and Rosie O’Donnell.  But the celebrity that gives the most money is Oprah Winfrey.  Oprah philanthropy efforts include her giving $58.3 million to Oprah’s Angel Network and her Leadership Academy which was recently reopened.  Barbara Streisand gave $11.75 million through her Streisand Foundation, and Tiger Woods gave $9.5 million to organizations such as the Tiger Woods Foundation and the Tiger Woods Learning Center .  Some other notable celebrity philanthropists are Geoffrey Beene, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Carmello Anthony, Elton John, David Geffen, and Arnold Palmer.  These are just a handful of people as celebrity philanthropy covers a large group of celebrities.

More than Money

Some celebrity philanthropists do not only give their money but their time as well.  Some of the higher profiled celebrities that give a lot of their time to making the world a better place are Angelina Jolie and Bono.  Angelina Jolie became a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador in 2001 and has worked in the field in places such as Kosovo, Cambodia, Thailand, Afghanistan, Lebanon, and Sri Lanka, to name a few.  Jolie stated that she gives a third of her salary to humanitarian causes.  The lead singer of U2, Bono, has organized aid concerts and has met with world leaders to advocate world debt relief and human rights.  In 2005 he was voted Time Magazine’s Person of the Year and has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize three times.

Donald Trump is a celebrity philanthropist who gives a lot of money to improve his beloved city pf New York .  Donald Trump’s philanthropy is spread out throughout many organizations and causes throughout the New York City area.  The one problem about Donald Trump is that he is accused of strategic philanthropy or charity networking, which is still giving money away to good causes but it is seen by many as a way to make his real estate ventures worth more.  No matter what the reason, Donald Trump is a celebrity philanthropist that has given away millions of dollars over the years.
